The research at FAU puts an emphasis on remote sensing and GIS analysis. Time series of optical earth observation systems at different spatial and spectral resolutions as well as synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data are used. Applications target the fields of glaciology and climate change and include changes in ice dynamics, glacier mass balances, contribution to sea level or variations in surface properties. Land use and land cover change analyses are an important part of the activities as are applications towards nature conservation, biodiversity research or studies on ecosystem functions.
